Dubrovnik, Croatia
09:25After our beautiful trip to Lokrum Island on day one of our adventure, we embarked on seeing more of Dubrovnik - and what better way to see it than with an aerial view!
We took a short trip outside of the city walls to the cable car, which takes you up to spectacular views of Dubrovnik's old town and the surrounding islands. The tickets cost 150 Kuna per person, from the ticket office. Notably, the cable car was much more modern, safer and quicker than the one we had previously been on in Romania.
When we first got off the cable car, you are met by a platform which overlooks the old town and highlights the stunning views. Although, beware this does get busy at first when everyone has shuffled off the cable car! Nevertheless, this is a great spot to take photos!
From the platform, we walked into a small building, complete with more stairs - myself & Alex are cursed with stairs after our trip to Paris. The small building leads out onto the top of the cliff face, where there is a panoramic restaurant, aptly named panorama. It was very busy, so we had to wait for a little while to get a table, although it was definitely worth the wait! We decided to have cocktails and lunch whilst we were there, the food was delicious and everyone else's food looked good too! After we finished our lunch, we were given a 10% off voucher from the restaurant, which you could use in two other restaurants by the harbour.
Behind the restaurant there was a large stone cross monument, just near the cliff edge. People were precariously walking along said cliff edge, so I decided it would be a great mini hike, obviously! We didn't walk along the cliff quite as precariously as others i.e. walking on the rocks on the very edge of the cliff! We walked down the stairs of the cross monument and went round on the road to the other side and out onto the cliff edge. The views were spectacular! Alex will testify that my mini hikes, whilst slightly crazy and exhausting, ultimately end up with amazing views!
As if that mini hike was not enough, when we got back down from the cable car, we went chasing the sunset! We walked in the direction of the sun, up many many stairs and along streets ladened with flowers. We definitely did over our 10,000 Fitbit steps! However, this walk lead to many serendipitously beautiful views:
Our chase finally led us to a platform, overlooking the ocean, where we just caught the last few seconds of the sun fading into the horizon.
It was beautiful.
